Lesson 9 of 9Process step: Close-outAudience: Mechanical + I&EPrerequisites: Lesson 8 (or equivalent experience)

You'll be able to

  • Calculate schedule compliance
  • Explain SMRP PM compliance (Society for Maintenance and Reliability Professionals)

Why it matters in the plant

These two metrics get mixed up all the time. Using the wrong one hides whether the schedule is working.

In this lesson

  1. Measure schedule compliance IW39
  2. Measure PM compliance IW39

Common mistakes

  • Measuring compliance against CMMS due dates instead of the weekly schedule [S20].
  • Celebrating schedule compliance above 90%: it often means the schedule wasn't fully loaded [S17].

Steps and transactions

Each step pairs the planning work with the transactions you'll use. Codes link to the reference.

1Measure schedule compliance

Schedule compliance is the percentage of orders on the weekly schedule that were completed, not a count of computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) due dates. Example: 60 of 80 = 75%. Healthy range: 40 to 90%. Below 40% often means the schedule was ignored or unrealistic. Above 90% often means it wasn't fully loaded. Candidate data source: IW39 [map E].

2Measure PM compliance

SMRP 5.4.14 reviews completed preventive and predictive maintenance work orders against preset criteria. Target: at least 90% completed on time. One way to define on time: the due date plus 20% of the PM frequency, capped at 28 days, which gives 18 days for a 3-month PM. This comes via a secondary summary, because the SMRP original is paywalled. Candidate: IW39.
