Work Order Types and Lifecycle

Module 2 Est. 2.5 h · estimate · draft

Lesson 2-4Audience: BothPrerequisites: Lesson 2-3DRAFT · unverified

What you'll be able to do

  • Follow an order from creation to technical completion (TECO)
  • Use the order list transactions

Why it matters in the plant

Every step of the planner's job happens on the order. Knowing its lifecycle stops orders from being closed too early or left open.

Steps and transactions

1Create the order

Create an order with IW31 or have a plan generate it. With a referenced task list, the operations are copied over. Order types and their meaning: TBD: owner to supply.

Craft notes

Same for both crafts.

2Release the order

After planning, approval and preparation, release the order. In classic Work Clearance Management (WCM), the Work Clearance Application controls 'Released for execution' ([P2]) Unverified.

Craft notes

Same for both crafts.

3Confirm the order

Some operations confirmed = partially confirmed. All required operations finally confirmed = the order is finally confirmed.

Craft notes

Mechanical: vibration readings. I&E: as-found and as-left values.

4Set TECO and use the order lists

Set TECO in IW32. For maintenance orders, TECO takes open reservations, capacity requirements and open purchase requisitions (PRs) for external or non-stock items out of planning, and sets the status to technically completed. SAP KBA 2810901, which is about maintenance orders, describes reservations that 'should have been deleted' at TECO but still exist [P7]. Playbook Owner's QA says they are closed (set to no longer relevant), not deleted. Exact handling depends on configuration and release Unverified. Postings, such as a late confirmation or goods issue, are still possible afterward [S24]. IW38/IW39 list orders for change or display.

Craft notes

Same for both crafts.

Common mistakes

  • Setting TECO before all labor is confirmed and all materials are cleared [S14].

Check your understanding

  1. What does a partially confirmed order mean?
  2. Name one effect of TECO.
  3. Which transaction displays a list of PM orders?

Answer key

  1. Some operations are confirmed, but not all of them are finally confirmed [S23]
  2. Takes open reservations out of planning, removes capacity requirements or open PRs, or sets the technically completed status [P7][S24] Unverified
  3. IW39 [map E]
