Technical Objects: Functional Locations, Equipment and BOMs

Module 2 Est. 2.5 h · estimate · draft

Lesson 2-1Audience: BothPrerequisites: Module 1DRAFT · unverified

What you'll be able to do

  • Explain the job of a functional location (FL), an equipment record, and a bill of materials (BOM)
  • Find the transactions that create, change and display each one

Why it matters in the plant

Every notification, order and plan points to a technical object. If the hierarchy or spare-parts structure is wrong, planners can't find history or parts. Why the hierarchy matters on site: TBD: owner to supply.

Steps and transactions

1Create or review the functional location hierarchy

A functional location is a node in the plant hierarchy (unit, system, tag location). Use IH01 to display the structure with its installed equipment. Hierarchy design rules (structure indicator, naming): TBD: owner to supply.

Craft notes

Same transactions for both crafts.

2Create or review the equipment record

An equipment record represents an individual object, such as a pump, motor or transmitter. IE4N installs or dismantles equipment at an FL, with a goods movement (for example, a pump swap or a transmitter swap). IE4N applies to both crafts Unverified.

Craft notes

Mechanical: pump and motor. I&E: transmitter. IE4N applies to both crafts, for example a pump or transmitter swap (the map lists it under Mechanical) Unverified.

3Build the spare-parts BOM

A BOM is the spare-parts structure for an equipment or an FL (for example, seal and bearings). It is the parts list planners use when assigning components to orders (Module 1, Lesson 5).

Craft notes

Mechanical: seal and bearings (map example). I&E: the parts on a transmitter BOM aren't sourced. TBD: owner to supply Unverified

Common mistakes

  • Building orders without a BOM: planners have to search for parts by hand. How common this is and what it costs on site: TBD: owner to supply.

Check your understanding

  1. Which transaction shows the FL hierarchy with its installed equipment?
  2. Which transaction installs or dismantles equipment at an FL?
  3. What is a BOM used for in planning?

Answer key

  1. IH01 [map E]
  2. IE4N [map I]
  3. The spare-parts structure for an equipment or FL [map B]
