Measuring Points, Classification and Work Centers

Module 2 Est. 2.5 h · estimate · draft

Lesson 2-2Audience: BothPrerequisites: Lesson 2-1DRAFT · unverified

What you'll be able to do

  • Set up measuring points and counters
  • Record and review measurement documents
  • Explain how work centers carry craft capacity

Why it matters in the plant

Readings and counters feed condition checks and counter-based plans. Work centers decide which craft and capacity each operation uses.

Steps and transactions

1Define measuring points and counters

A measuring point is a defined reading point (vibration, bearing temperature, run hours, as-found error). A counter is a measuring point flagged as a counter.

Craft notes

Mechanical: vibration, bearing temperature, run hours. I&E: as-found error.

2Record and review readings

Use IK11 to enter a reading (vibration, counter, as-found/as-left) and IK17 to review readings. Readings can also be entered during completion confirmation [S23].

Craft notes

Mechanical: vibration trend. I&E: as-found and as-left values.

3Classify equipment

CL20N assigns a class and characteristics (for example, range or SIL) to equipment. The source is a general list, not a PM-specific page Unverified.

Craft notes

I&E: range and SIL characteristics are the map's examples.

4Set up craft work centers

A work center represents a craft group (mechanical, instrument, electrical) and its available capacity. IR01 creates a work center for Plant Maintenance [map B]. The map notes it relates to CR01, the general work center transaction; how the two differ on screen and in defaults hasn't been checked Unverified. Capacity data such as shifts and utilization is maintained on the work center's capacity [S16] Unverified.

Craft notes

Separate work centers for Mechanical and I&E.

Common mistakes

  • Using a counter-based plan without a counter on the measuring point: the counter is a measuring point flagged as a counter [map B].

Check your understanding

  1. What makes a measuring point a counter?
  2. Which transaction enters a reading?
  3. Which transaction creates a work center?

Answer key

  1. It is flagged as a counter [map B]
  2. IK11 [map B]
  3. IR01, Create Work Center (Plant Maintenance) [map B] Unverified
