Planning, scheduling and maintenance plans, taught by people who've done it in the plant.
About The Planner's Bench
What is The Planner's Bench? An independent training business. We teach maintenance planning, scheduling and preventive maintenance (PM) plans for Mechanical and Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) work in oil & gas and petrochemical plants, including how to do that work in SAP Plant Maintenance (SAP PM).
Who's behind it? TBD: owner to supply, a short, verified bio. No employer names, sites or confidential projects. [EMPLOYER REVIEW: owner to check any bio wording before publishing.]
Are you affiliated with SAP? No. The Planner's Bench is independent and not affiliated with or endorsed by SAP SE. SAP and SAP PM are trademarks of SAP SE. We use the names only to describe what the course covers.
Are you affiliated with any oil, gas or petrochemical company? No. We aren't affiliated with, sponsored by, or speaking for any operator, contractor or employer, including the owner's employer. [EMPLOYER REVIEW: owner to check this wording, and whether outside-business disclosure to the employer is needed.]
Do you use real plant documents or data? No. Every example, template and scenario is built from public sources and general industry knowledge, using made-up equipment tags and fictional plants. We never use any employer's or client's documents, procedures, task lists, data, tag numbers, site names or branding. Sources are cited in each lesson and template.
Courses and templates
What do you teach? The flagship course covers the planner role, SAP PM foundations, job planning, task lists and maintenance plans, Mechanical PM, Instrumentation PM, Electrical PM, scheduling, backlog and key performance indicators (KPIs), permits and multi-craft jobs, turnarounds, and continuous improvement. Course status: TBD: owner to supply, e.g., in development / beta / open.
Who is it for? Maintenance planners and schedulers (new or experienced), reliability engineers, maintenance supervisors, and craft leads moving into planning. Mechanical and I&E are treated as equal audiences, and the course says where the work differs.
Do I need SAP access? TBD: owner to confirm. Suggested answer: helpful but not required. The concepts and templates work without a live system, but you'll get more out of the SAP PM lessons if you can follow along in a system you're authorized to use. Never use a live production system for practice without your site's permission.
Does it cover SAP ECC or SAP S/4HANA? The lessons use SAP graphical user interface (GUI) transactions that apply to SAP ERP Central Component (ECC) and to SAP S/4HANA (SAP's newer enterprise resource planning (ERP) suite) on-premise, with notes where they differ. SAP Fiori is SAP's browser-based app interface. Fiori app IDs we cite apply to S/4HANA only. SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition uses Fiori apps rather than these GUI transactions. Behavior varies by release and configuration. Unverified Public sources: SAP Learning, Using SAP GUI-Based Functions for Single-Cycle Plans (https://learning.sap.com/courses/exploring-preventive-maintenance-in-sap-s-4hana-asset-management/using-sap-gui-based-functions-for-single-cycle-plans); SAP Learning, Scheduling Maintenance Plans (https://learning.sap.com/courses/exploring-business-processes-in-sap-s-4hana-asset-management/scheduling-maintenance-plans_a1924dce-60b5-496d-b81a-563df3bb9655-1-1). The Cloud Public Edition point has no public source yet TBD: owner to supply.
Will this replace my site's procedures? No. We teach general good practice. Your site's configuration, procedures, permit and isolation rules, and management of change (MOC) process always come first. The course never suggests shortcuts around them.
What templates do you offer? Planned templates include a preventive maintenance (PM) work order planning checklist, a task list template, a weekly scheduling board, and a backlog tracker, plus I&E and Mechanical PM template packs. Final contents and formats: TBD: owner to supply.
What file formats are the templates? TBD: owner to supply, e.g., CSV, Excel, Google Sheets, PDF.
Will you teach Microsoft Project or Primavera P6? Outlines for planned courses on these scheduling tools are in draft. Availability: TBD: owner to supply. We'll only teach features we've confirmed in the product's own documentation. The Planner's Bench is not affiliated with Microsoft or Oracle. [UNVERIFIED: owner to confirm trademark wording.]
Is there a turnaround course? A Turnaround track is in draft. It covers scope, work lists, materials, contractor coordination, scheduling and post-turnaround review. Availability: TBD: owner to supply.
